Predictive Control for Traffic Networks with Performance Guarantees - Increased sensing and actuation modalities have the potential to improve efficiency and resilience of urban traffic networks. The legacy control systems for ramp metering or traffic signal timing typically work on the principle of first estimating latent state from real-time data without consideration for the end system objective and using these estimates as input to established control algorithms which can typically work only with complete state information. This sequential approach not only potentially has redundancies but could also be inefficient. We present methodological foundations to design control algorithms for ramp metering and signal timing that can directly work with emerging sensing modalities, adapt to changing operating conditions and allow to study tradeoff between different performance objectives.
